Extension of martial law in Mindanao

The 17th Congress approved President Rodrigo Duterte’s request for the extension of martial in Mindanao for another year up to the end of 2019. This is the third extension granted to the president. Toward the latter part of 2017, Duterte asked Congress to lengthen his martial law declaration in May by six months. Before the previous year ended, he appealed for a one-year extension up to the end of this year. In a letter submitted to the two houses, the chief executive said that security assessment by the police and military indicated that rebellion still persists in Mindanao.
During the joint session of Congress, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea claimed that Mindanao remains to be “in the midst of rebellion” and that the whole island is a “hotbed of communist insurgency in the country.” Medialdea also said that “We cannot afford to show enemies a moment of weakness in our resolve to defeat them. We cannot falter or else we lose our progress”. The chief executive declared martial law in Mindanao following the breakout of Marawi siege in May 2017.
And Malacañang called the approval of both houses of Congress of the extension of martial law and the suspension of the prolonged privilege of the writ of habeas corpus a “positive development.” Presidential Spokeperson Salvador Panelo thanked the lawmakers for sharing their executive’s view that the extension is purely intended for the general welfare and well being of the people of Mindanao.
This movement implies a good benefit in our nation. It help us to be secured and safety for 24/7. Our Filipino Military and Police was able to guard our places in order to fulfill their duties, this men is proving that this movement is essential to them. Military was always implementing a checkpoint in entering and exiting especially in Davao. They were very strict especially in bus, van and other public cars. Some of people especially in Luzon, is against to this movement due to their past experience in 1970 by former President Marcos. We Filipinos have to believe and trust our leaders for doing this even this movement will let is reminisce all the pain. I believe this movement will become successful because the leader will always know what’’s the best for his/her people.
